What are College Students Doing on the Internet
Nowadays surfing the Internet has become very popular on campus. I am impressed most that many college students spend too much time playing games and chatting on the Internet.
As is well known, chatting and playing and can do much harm to us if we spend too much time on the virtual world. Firstly, it is an enormous waste of time and we will have little time for our study. Secondly, those who play games or chat day and night will be harmed physically for lack of rest and sleep. Thirdly, our social ties will suffer as a result of the immersion in the virtual world. The last but not the least, it will cost us much money.
In my opinion, we should deal with the Internet carefully. On the one hand, we can get some pleasure and knowledge from the Internet. On the other hand, we shouldn spend too much time, energy and money on the Internet because study is our priority. In conclusion, we should make good and proper use of the Internet.
Social Networking’s Influence on College Students
Social networking has gained huge worldwide popularity in recent years, especially among college students. In China, college student is the main force of social networking, 97.7% of which are fond of instant messaging and 80.7% prefer social networking sites like micro-blog and Q-zone (China Internet Network Information Center, 2013). Moreover, Michigan State University Original Study also finds that compared with Chinese students, American students are more tied to social media (2013). Therefore, nowadays there is a heated debate about advantages and disadvantages about social networking’s influence on college students.
Obviously, there are a number of positive features on social networking. It provides a convenient access to consolidate the relationship with people they know, make friends with strangers without restrictions of space and share happiness and sorrow. What’s more, social networking also has educational functions including reducing college drop-out rates, motivating students to work as a team, sending information about assignments, reminding students about deadline and stimulating students to help each other. (BBC News, 2009). There is no doubt that social networking plays a significant role in eiching students’ college lives.
However, every coin has two sides. There are also many disadvantages on the influence of social networking, among which, “soft addiction” is the most serious problem, distracting students from study. Because of lack of self-restriction, many students would waste plenty of time to search the social networking sites unconsciously, followed by a strong tendency to blame themselves (Li, 2013). This kind of “soft addiction” and distraction was also confirmed by Zhang (2011) who conducted a survey by questionare of 500 Chinese college students from different schools and found that 33% students could not bear one-week life without social networking and 77% students could not help themselves accessing social networking site during classes. Furthermore, a social experiment was performed by Harrisburg University (Pilkington, 2010) to figure out the effect after initiating blackout of all social networking sites. It turned out that some students became more concentrated on
the tutor and making notes instead of having instant messaging running in classes.
As far as I’m concerned, the disadvantages far outweigh the advantages, especially in China, where social networking is used for communication and entertainment and seldom plays the educational role (Li, 2011). The priority of a college student is to study hard instead of being addicted to social networking. Therefore, it is imperative for them to realize their “soft addiction” to social networking and correct their behavior.
In the era of information and technology, the Internet plays an important role in our
society. However, people’s opinions are still divided on this point. Those who are in favor of the Internet claim that it has a lot of advantages. Firstly, information searching is no longer a tough job with the help of all kinds of search engines. Secondly, we can contact friends or business partners via e-mails or software such as Internet Meeting and Yahoo Messenger.
Those who are opposed to the Internet hold that its disadvantages are numerous. In the first place, using the Internet costs considerable time, money and energy, especially for those with poor self-control. In the second place, increasing young people are indulged in online
Social network: connection and isolation
A social network, said by google, is a social structure made up of a set of social actors (such as individuals or organizations) and a set of the dyadic ties between these actors. With the rapid development of network, we unintentionally found that t QQ, Microblog, etc. have altered the landscape of social interaction, particularly among young people.
What‘s the influence of the social network, connection or isolationDifferent person has different point of view. On the one hand, social networking is a social structure composed of different complex social connections of individuals or groups. Connected by similar values, interests, or certain bonds in reality, social networking links various people together, making the world much smaller. The friends that you can make are another one of the many benefits to social networking online. However, some people hold the opposite view, purporting that social networks are more like mutual isolation networks that detach people from meaningful interactions with one another and make them less human.
Even, if individuals cannot learn to interact and develop meaningful relationships outside the narcissistic, soap opera-environment of the social network, then society is in for some major trouble down the road. In general, we should appropriately use social networks, to maximize the use of its advantages. For ourselves, we should improve ourselves quality, enhance the ability to control, have a clear understanding of socialnetwork.
Internet Change Collage life
When it comes to internet age, many thing goanna be changed, such as the ways to knowing news, the way to community, the way to shopping and so on, at the same time, it also changed every aspect of students’ college life.
Now, our college students have many ways to study except listen the teacher said, we can scan the knowledge on web, we can download the electronic edition of the textbook, if necessary, we even can listen other college’s teacher’s class on the internet. All of these depend on the development of internet; it makes our study in college more efficient, more interesting, and quick.
The internet brought us so many benefits, does it mans it haven’t any disadvantageExactly not, it is so obvious that so many college students have damage for it. There is a example, a seiner high school student was eolled by Tsinghua University in a high scores but after 1year he was dropped out by the university, whyThe reason is sample, after he stepped into college he began high on or suspected to addicted to web game, he started to be truant, violate the college rules, finally, he failed many courses, and the university didn’t forgive him anymore. There are lots of other stories like this one, because of internet, college students had to give up their college life. What makes these unhappy things happenedIn my opinion, the main reason is that under the Chinese education system, every student is strictly surprised by their parent’s, the teachers and school before college entrance examination, they have little freedom. After they go to the college, the parents left them alone, the teachers started to give them enough belief, so they can do everything they want include surfing the internet without control
Even so we still .shouldn’t give up our right study life, we shouldn’t forget the reason we spend extra 4 years in college: we need more useful knowledge, so that we can have a good job, a good future.
Internet is a rapier, it can help you gain more ,it also can make you lose more, it leys on what will you choose.
As a primary source of information as well as an efficient means of communication, the Internet offers people a colorful and convenientlife. Just by clicking the mouse, we can enjoy a brilliant and easy life that could not be achieved ever before: shopping, making friends, contacting
relatives, looking for jobs, downloading music and movies, conducting business deals, and freely airing our opinions.
For its convenience, the Internet has attracted people like magnets and some people even claim that it is indispensable. To them, life can’t go on without it. Every day millions of people spend hours on end surfing the Internet. They are obsessed with it so much so that they forget many other important matters.
As far as I am concerned, I don’t approve of uestrained Internet reliance. Although the Internet is a gift of the technological revolution and a blessing of this information age, we should never let it control our life. The Internet absolutely doesn’t mean the whole world to us. Instead, we should guard against its negative effects. To those Internet addicts, I would add: “Self-control can make or break your life. With proper use, the Internet serves you; otherwise, it kills you.”
Internet slang such as LOL (laughing out loud) and ROFL (rolling on the floor laughing) enjoys great popularity among teenagers nowadays. In fact, it becomes so popular that many terms now cross from
computer-mediated communication to face-to-face communication. Some teenagers even use them in essay writing.
People have different opinions towards this phenomenon. Some people say that it will help eich the language system and make language diverse. But others disagree, saying that these new words, being abbreviations for existing, long-used phrases, don’t “eich”
anything; they just shorten it and their total effect on language will be trivial.
In my opinion, Internet slang has little effect on language in general, but will greatly influence individuals’, especially teenagers’ language development. The reason is that overuse of Internet slang will
I think it is not all bad for millde school student to search the Internet.
Some students play games on line.
I dont agree it at all.
It has nothing to do with their study.
And it will make them lose the interests of learning.
But also it is very nessary for us to search the Internet.
In the modern world, using computer and the Internet is an important skill.
We can use it to find some information that we need and communicate with our friends, teachers and parents.
Sending e-mail and check out some international news are useful for us as well.
Good morning, class !
Today , I’ll talk about getting online.
We know that there are too many net-bars(网吧) around us .The Internet can make our lives interesting and enjoyable. Many of us like getting online very much because we can learn how to use the computer and get more information from the Internet. We can learn English . We can read some good newspapers and magazniess. It can make us clever in playing computer games. I can send e-mail to our friends quickly. We can chat(聊天)online with our friends. It can help us get in touch with(取得联系) people from all over the world. But some students spend too much time in playing computer games and some stay in the net bars all day and all night. As a result, they do worse and worse in their lessons and they don’t study well any more. I think we mustn’t go online when it is time for us to study. We can do it in summer or winter holidays.
Primary Students Should Keep Far from the Internet
The Internet becomes very popular in our life. It brings many advantages, but I think we primary students should keep far from the Internet.
Firstly, we should focus on our study, so we can’t spend too much time on the Internet. We can be easily addicted to it. Secondly, there is much harmful information on the Internet. They would do harm to us. Finally, surfing the Internet for too long is harmful to our eyesight.
Therefore, primary students should stay far from the Internet.
